In the summer of 2004, I received a singular commission from Alexandra Busch Hopfenblatt:
to design and build a house.
At the time, I was about ten years old and had little idea of what it actually meant to design something.
The house, of course, was for her Barbies.
I built it using a shoebox, scraps of cardboard and liquid glue (or Agorex, as we call it in Chile).
I remember being happy.
zukiruki was born out of that exact same idea: designing and building things that bring me joy.
I like to think of the pieces collected here as useless objetcs (even though they have a "function"). Like the things we build as children, their only real function is to sit in our rooms and keep us company.
Memory, fiction, and translation are themes I hope to explore in these designs.
